Chevalier de Saint-Georges

Joseph Boulogne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, was born of an enslaved woman in the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe and went on to become one of Europe's most celebrated gentlemen, soldiers and musicians. As the leader of one of Paris' great orchestras and the music teacher to Queen Marie Antoinette, he inspired jealousy in a teen-aged Mozart, to whom he has often been compared. History has erased his remarkable achievements, accomplished in the face of endemic bigotry.

Susan Lamb Cook (cellist/producer), Deborah Pittman (clarinetist/writer), and Christopher Cook (visual artist/director) collaborate to create a multimedia work narrated by vocal artist, Omari Tau in this new and imaginative work that marries fascinating historical narrative, vibrant visual art, and majestic music to tell this awe-inspiring tale.

The film will be accompanied by a Study Guide created by Curriculum Specialist, Sarah Brown and Deborah Pittman.

MôD Artists presents, Convergence II, a film and concert excerpts about Oak Park, Sacramento History

Convergence II was an artistic, socially dynamic, event-based project on the history of Oak Park. MôD Artists, flutist Maquette Kuper, baritone Omari Tau, and clarinetist Deborah Pittman along with film directors Lauren Wagner & Mark Herzig presented three live events in February, April, and June of 2018 each depicting a different era in Oak Park. Each event included a short documentary film and live music.

On Jan. 16, 2021 MôD Artists presented a video compilation of the full project with original film, live interviews, photos, and videos from the actual events. This film was offered as a fund raiser for Celebration Arts Theatre Company.
